A customer called the other day wanting to understand how the combination of a variable speed pump and LED light combination could save their energy bill every year. I got excited to hear that I didn’t bore you all with the math and wanted to take the challenge to help you determine if upgrades would be the right fit for your pool (and more importantly, your wallet).

Upgrading your pool with LED lights and variable speed pumps is a smart move that can save you money and energy. Here's why:

LED Pool Lights

  • Safety First: 12V LED systems reduce the risk of electrical shock, making your pool safer.
  • Cost Savings: LED lights use significantly less electricity than incandescent lights. For example, an incandescent pool light can cost around $191.66 annually, while an LED light can cost just $21.98. That’s a savings of about $169 each year!
  • Durability: LEDs last up to 25,000 hours, far longer than traditional bulbs, meaning fewer replacements and less maintenance.
  • Aesthetics: Enjoy a wide range of colors and brightness levels to create the perfect ambiance for any occasion.
  • Eco-Friendly: Using less power and lasting longer makes LEDs better for the environment, reducing waste and energy consumption.

Variable Speed Pumps

  • Energy Savings: These pumps can save you up to $70 a month on your energy bill. They adjust their speed to match your pool's needs, using less energy overall.
  • Compliance: Currently, any pool pump above 1 horsepower will need to be a variable speed pump to comply with new regulations. Upgrading now ensures you meet these requirements.
  • Eco-Friendly: Lower energy consumption means a smaller carbon footprint, contributing to a healthier planet.
  • Variable speed allows for more flow for water features
The calculations above are based on the main pump running 8 hours a day @2900 RPM’s from 10am to 6 pm and the cleaner pump running 3 hours in the middle of that schedule.**

Investing in both LED light and variable speed pump system combined can save $1,100.80 annually or $91.73 a month in electricity (based on $0.14/Kw).

Investing to replace all 4 products would be $5200. Using the calculations above, this would take 4.72 years to pay for itself.  However, if you already need repairs for 2hp motor replacement ($650) and for new booster pump ($800) and for new bulbs and gaskets in your lights ($500). You’ll be spending $1950 at least on those repairs. For an additional, $3250 you can upgrade to an eco-friendly system. Upgrading your current system would amount about 3 years to recoup the cost, which puts you right at the 3 year warranty from the factory!

We've done the math for you based on different electricity costs. If your are paying more than $0.14/kwH your savings with this equipment increases, making it more economical to invest. Check your electricity next month to see what the cost is to calculate for yourself!

By upgrading, you’re not just following regulations—you’re investing in a safer, more efficient, and cost-effective pool. 🌟🏊‍♂️For all your pool needs, Aqua+Medic is here to help. Contact us to learn more about these upgrades – your wallet and the planet will thank you!
